WHAT IS YOUR JOB, AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE AND WORK?
I work at my specialty coffee shop, where I prepare espresso and brew coffee using various alternative methods. We also educate coffee enthusiasts through hands-on preparation and meaningful conversations. The shop is located in Marinilla, Antioquia, which is also where I live.
WHAT DOES COFFEE MEAN TO YOU, AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT IT?
To me, coffee is a universal language that connects, inspires, and transforms. I brew it every day at home and at work, where it becomes the centrepiece for gatherings with my loved ones, clients, partners, & fellow coffee lovers. Each cup shared creates an opportunity to strengthen bonds, spark authentic conversations, and build valuable relationships.
Beyond its role as a social catalyst, coffee symbolises dignity and hope for those who grow it. I deeply value the effort behind every bean, representing the honourable livelihood of farmers who find purpose and development through this craft.
What captivates me most is coffee’s ability to surprise. Every brew is different, every sensory experience is unique. Coffee teaches us constantly — that’s why I believe we must be eternal learners, always ready to understand it better and share its essence with others.
Coffee educates, invites reflection, transforms realities, and fosters sincere friendships. It is a loyal companion that uplifts the spirit, builds community, and drives my vocation to serve and teach. For all these reasons, coffee is essential to my daily life: I prepare it with passion, enjoy it with gratitude, study it with discipline, and share it with love.
WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH COMANDANTE GRINDERS AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT THEM?

My experience with Comandante grinders has been profoundly rewarding. I consider them precision tools that raise the bar for coffee preparation, both in professional settings and everyday experiences.

What I value most is their exceptional grind consistency, which ensures balanced extractions and highlights the delicate notes of each origin. This allows for greater control and the ability to fine-tune recipes across brewing methods, from espresso to filter. Every click feels precise, robust, and reliable.

Moreover, I appreciate their ergonomic and aesthetic design, seamlessly blending functionality and beauty. These grinders not only perform at the highest level but also inspire and motivate me to explore coffee with respect and curiosity.
For me, they are not just work tools — they are allies in education and in pursuing excellence in the cup. In both training spaces and intimate or shared moments, they elevate the coffee experience to new heights.
WHY DID YOU APPLY TO THE COMANDANTE CHAMPIONSHIP?
I decided to participate in the Comandante Championship in Jericó because of my constant desire to enhance my skills and knowledge in a high-level environment.
I saw this as an opportunity for collective learning, surrounded by people who, like me, share a passion for detail, technique, and coffee culture. I knew it would be a space to gain insights from other enthusiasts, producers, roasters, baristas, and brand representatives, each offering their vision and sensitivity around a cup of coffee.
Competing in a symbolic location like Jericó, rich in coffee tradition and natural beauty, was also a way to honour the work of farmers and the value of coffee as a driver of social transformation.
Ultimately, this experience allowed me to challenge myself, grow, strengthen my network, and, above all, continue sharing my passion in environments that celebrate quality and the community spirit that define the coffee world.
WHAT WAS THE COMPETITION LIKE FOR YOU?
The Comandante Championship Jericó 2025 was undoubtedly deeply enriching and transformative. For me, it represented a true space for learning, connection, and self-challenge.
Each round provided an opportunity to test not only my technical skills but also my ability to stay focused and adapt in an environment where every detail matters. I particularly enjoyed the dynamic of sharing with other competitors, all passionate about coffee, which created a respectful and growth-oriented atmosphere.
One of the most valuable aspects of this experience was the exceptional organisation and support. Jana and Cisco did a phenomenal job — they meticulously handled every detail, from logistics to ensuring a great experience. Their flawless planning and evident passion made everything flow harmoniously and professionally.
Likewise, I must highlight the role of Daniel and his team at Campesino Café, who perfectly fulfilled their role as hosts. Their warmth, readiness, and attention made every competitor and guest feel welcomed and part of a big coffee family.
I cannot fail to mention the magic of the venue. Jericó — one of Colombia’s most beautiful towns — was the perfect setting for this experience. Its cultural richness, natural beauty, and coffee tradition added emotional and symbolic value, enhancing the event's significance.
WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE GOALS?
1. Earn a spot at the World AeroPress Championship.
2. Compete as a Barista in FICCA.
3. Further equip my coffee lab to expand the range of courses and experiences offered, thus contributing to and enriching the coffee culture in my region.
Above all, I aim to continue enhancing my knowledge and skills at all times — coffee invites us to be eternal learners.
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR FUTURE COMPETITORS?
1. Enjoy every moment that coffee evokes.
2. Get to know the Comandante grinder well — when used correctly, it is the perfect ally for creating an excellent brew.
3. Approach the competition with a proper mindset - enjoy and learn.
