Comandante Championship
The Comandante Grind & Brew Championship is a knockout brewing competition that blends high quality coffee with high quality fun! Founded in 2016, the event was designed to be as accessible as possible — everything you need is provided. It’s all about bringing coffee lovers together, one community at a time.
Competitors brew using the same equipment, water, and coffee — and, of course, a Comandante grinder. Round One is the pour over round, Round Two full immersion. For The Final, the flip of a coin decides which brewing method will be used. Anyone who doesn’t make it through Round One or Two still has a second chance to brew in the final after the Wildcard Draw — ‘cause it ain’t over till it’s over!
It’s a test of skill and intuition, where you craft a cup you’d love to drink and present it to a panel of international judges. The ultimate prize?
The prestigious golden C40 trophy — and lifelong bragging rights!
how the competition works …
First up, it’s the pour over round!
All competitors brew the same amazing coffee using the equipment provided. Competitors are of course free to choose their recipe and brew size, so long as 200+ ml of coffee is served to the judges.
New round, new brewing method: full immersion!
Round one winners must now adapt their grind settings and approach to once again wow the judges, using the equipment provided.
It’s crunch time! A last minute coin flip decides which of the previous brewing methods you must use in this final battle for glory. One lucky Wildcard entry — drawn from those eliminated in Round One and Two — gets a second chance to prove themselves to the judges. Nevertheless, glory in the final is not a matter of luck. Victory here is proof of a versatile and talented coffee brewer who can handle the pressure when it counts. Go for gold!
