El Morito |🥇1st Place
Finca El Morito is located in the village of Morales, within the municipality of Mataquescuintla, Jalapa, Guatemala. Nestled between 1,400 and 2,650 meters above sea level, the farm enjoys a cool temperate climate with temperatures ranging from 7°C to 25°C and annual rainfall between 1,100 and 1,700 mm—perfect conditions for producing exceptional specialty coffee.
The farm spans 672 hectares, including 98 hectares of coffee cultivation, 50.6 hectares of pasture, and over 523 hectares of native forest reserve featuring pine, cypress, oak, guachipilÃn, and more. Coffee is harvested from January to April.
El Morito maintains its own nursery to ensure the quality and sustainability of its plants. Here, agronomic best practices are implemented, including the careful use of approved phytosanitary products and molasses management. The farm cultivates a range of varieties, including Pache San Ramón, CatuaÃ, Bourbon, Maragogipe, Pacamara, Maracatú, and Geisha.
New plantations are established without removing native trees, preserving the natural canopy for shade-grown coffee. Weeds are managed manually, and great care is taken in water conservation, soil protection, and preserving the local flora and fauna. All agricultural inputs and practices are carefully managed under the guidance of agronomist Juan José Hernández Lima.
