What is your job, and where do you live and work?
I live in Baku, Azerbaijan. At the moment, I’m taking a break from work to focus on learning and improving my coffee knowledge and sensory skills. I believe that growth never stops — and this phase of studying and experimenting is helping me become a better coffee professional.
What does coffee mean to you, and what do you love about it?
Coffee is a big part of my life. I used to enjoy mostly tasting different coffees, but now I also love preparing them and experimenting with different ways to make a good cup.
What is your experience with Comandante grinders, and what do you like about them?
My experience with Comandante grinders started quite recently, but from the first moment, I knew it was something special. What I love most is the precision and consistency — every grind feels deliberate and crafted. It allows me to get exactly what I want in the cup, and that level of control is what every barista dreams of.
Why did you apply for the Comandante Championship?
At first, I joined to win, of course — but later I realised it’s about much more. It’s about challenging yourself, learning from others, and celebrating the passion that connects all of us in the coffee world. I wanted to meet like-minded people, gain experience, and just enjoy the journey.
How was the competition for you?
It was both exciting and nerve-wracking! Since I don’t have much competition experience, every round felt like a big challenge — but also a huge opportunity to grow. It was the first Comandante Championship in Azerbaijan, and all competitors were strong and passionate. The organisation was top-notch, and I want to give a special thanks to Baristica for that. I gave my best and learned a lot along the way.
What is your advice for future competitors?
My advice is to stay calm and trust yourself. Use what you know, think simply, and focus on making a good cup. You don’t need complicated techniques — even a simple approach can make a great coffee.
What are your future goals?
My goal is to keep learning more about coffee, exploring new techniques, and gaining experience. I want to take part in competitions and continue improving my knowledge so I can contribute to the growth of specialty coffee culture in Azerbaijan. I aim to challenge myself, discover new ways of brewing, and share what I learn with others to inspire more people to appreciate coffee.
