What is your job and where do you live and work?
I own a coffee shop called Monét. Started my own business during covid, I’ve been a barista for almost 3 years but every day is still a learning process and experience.
What does coffee mean to you and what do you love about it?
Coffee to me is a culture itself, I feel as though it brings people together - may it be bonding over coffee, or getting a coffee fix first thing in the morning. I love that just through coffee, many opportunities have opened up for me. I met so many people along the way that I hold close to my heart too!
What is your experience with Comandante grinders and what do you like about them?
It was my first time using it, but despite that, I found it easy and convenient to use! I like the size and weight of it as well, it’s compact yet a good size to take it anywhere on the go!
Why did you apply for the Comandante Championship?
I decided to join mainly for the experience, I knew it was something new for me but I also knew that there’s always room for new knowledge.
How was the competition for you?
It was really fun! I enjoyed every moment because glad to see how our coffee community brings together as one.
What are your future goals?
The future is to bring more awareness towards specialty coffee in Malaysia 🇲🇾
What is your advice for future competitors?
I know it’s easier said than done but just go for it. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to the game, or if you’ve been in it for years; you never know where it could take you. It’s important to make peace with the possibility of not winning as well, you should always be proud of yourself for the journey rather than solely on the destination.
